FAQs
We are a home setting not a clinical setting. We only care for people at end-of-life. It is our area of expertise. Being donation based, we are much more affordable. Our Caregiver to Guest (patient) ratio is 1:3, compared to other facilities which are closer to 1:15.
No. Our caregivers are not nurses, but our caregivers are passionate about providing great end-of-life care to our guests and their families and it is what they do every day. Your chosen Hospice Company will send a nurse out 2-3 times a week and more often as the guest experiences declines in the death and dying process. We also can call and ask for a nurse to visit 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.
An End of Life Guest must meet three criteria:
1) They have to be an active patient with a hospice company that serves our area
2) They have to have 3 months or less expected of life accessed by their Hospice Company
3) They have to have a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) order in place and we must have a copy of it

Our maximum caregiver to guest ratio is 1:3.
We have no set visiting hours in our home. We cannot predict when the end will happen, so we allow families to visit as much and as often as they would like.
We allow anyone that our guests want to visit. We welcome all family and friends of all ages at The Comfort Home. We even have a playset in the backyard for our younger visitors.
We do reserve the right to ask visitors to leave if their behavior is threatening, disruptive, or inappropriate to our guests, other families, and/or our staff.
Yes, healthy pets like cats and dogs can come for a visit, but we do not allow them to stay in our home.
If the guest, who is at end-of-life, is hungry we will provide meals and food that they prefer. Once a guest arrives, we often go to the grocery store to make sure we have items in the house that they like to eat. If they are alert enough, able and want to eat, our Caregivers will prepare their meals for them and feed them if assistance is needed. Appetite often changes and declines during the end-of-life journey so eating and drinking are very individualized to each guest and often change throughout their time with us.
You will never receive a bill for your loved one’s care at The Comfort Home. We are funded solely by Donations, Fundraisers and Grants. We do not accept payments or reimbursement from any health insurance companies, not from Medicaid or Medicare and not from hospice companies. We are funded through the generosity of the communities we serve.
Your insurance company covers your hospice services, but we do NOT accept payments or reimbursements (including Medicaid and Medicare) from insurance companies or hospice companies. We are solely funded by donations, fundraisers, and grants though the generosity of the communities we serve.
We do allow our guests to smoke if they are able to physically get outside to do so. If they require supplemental oxygen to help with respiratory issues, this must be removed and left inside while they are outside smoking.
